Family memories

We drove out to the Stillwater Tree Farm to cut down our own Christmas tree. Many people bring home a Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving. It was a great way to celebrate the first Sunday in Advent.

Wine before dinner

Our friends, Steven and Allison, invited us over for a glass of wine before dinner out with some other friends. Cheers!

"Black Friday" started at 3 AM

(Photograph removed upon request)

Many stores in Eagan and across the USA opened their doors early to jumpstart their Christmas shopping season. Kohls in Town Centre opened at 3 am with over 400 earlybird specials. (I slept in until 9 am)

This store security guy followed me out of their store and inquired about my photo. When I told him that I'm with the Eagan Daily Photo blog, he lightened up.

Dinner with the Lees

My wife's family came up from Iowa to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. We set up a buffet in the kitchen of turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberries, lingonberries, green beans, pumpkin bread, fruit salad and dinner rolls. Pies and coffee later topped off our Thanksgiving meal together.

Pies and praise

Easter Lutheran Church members gathered on Wednesday evening for a Thanksgiving worship service. Afterwards, everyone made a quick dash for the tables filled with various types of pies. I was too slow and ended up in the back of the line!

The 3 nervous turkeys

These three wild turkeys were calmly feeding in a front yard in late October. With Thanksgiving soon here, they're likely now hiding deep in the woods!

The car next to me at the stoplight decorated their car with a Thanksgiving turkey!

ICE emergency!

All over Eagan and the Twin Cities, a layer of ICE has covered the roads, highways and sidewalks over night! There have been many car accidents and even a 40 car pile-up last night on Highway 94! Glad to see the City of Eagan truck spreading de-icing salt!

Big lake, little lake

On a pleasant Saturday afternoon over two weeks ago, I walked down to a nearby lake for a few photos, exercise and fresh air.

One last Autumn look back

Just of Covington Lane, this Maple tree was a work of beauty in mid-October! Now you've been seeing snow in my photos...

Breaking news!

We've got some badddddd news in Eagan: Defense contractor, Lockheed Martin, is leaving town in 2013. That means the loss of 1,000 jobs, including 700 engineers in a company founded back in 1946. Zut alors!

The Doggie Neon 5

These four women walk their dogs together every morning. Their 5th member was gone on vacation. When I asked them if their group had a name, they looked at each other and said "no." Fun women and cute dogs!

Tuesday morning's commute

Stopped at the traffic light on Cliff Road at Johnny Cake Road, I pulled out my camera to capture a view on my 3 mile winter drive to my office.

Feeling blue, Mr. Snowman?

This 7 foot tall, husky snowman stands in front of the Valvoline oil change store on Cliff Road. En route to my office this morning, I snapped the bottom photo of Frosty. After lunch at home, I noticed Frosty's color had changed to blue! He will likely slowly melt all week based on our current weather reports....

Pretty in pink

At 7 AM on Thursday morning, the sky was painted pink and hues of blue. After breakfast, the pink was gone and so was a magnificent sunrise!

Saturday's snow blizzard

When we woke up this morning, a snow blizzard had covered everything in fluffy white! My neighbor across the street cleaned out his driveway before I could.

Muskrat alert!

Down along the neighborhood lake's edge, this muskrat was just hanging out. I took one step closer and he disappeared into the water!

A WWII relic

Vietnam War and Iraq War veteran and Lieutenent Colonel Joe Repya, was kind enough to pose with his 1942 WWII Army Jeep at Safety Officer Tribute & Memorial at the Eagan Community Center in Mid-October.

Recognizing two WWII veterans

At yesterday's Eagan Rotary Club lunch meeting, two World War II veterans were recognized for their service. They were surrounded by fellow veterans from the Rosemount VFW Chapter 9433 including the two WWII award recipients from last year's annual recognition.
Chuck Hedges, wearing a vest and no cap, served as a ship engineer on the USS Tennessee during the fierce "Battle of Leyte Gulf" during his service in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946. Will Hageman, next to Chuck, served as an Army Air Cadets bombardier in WWII from 1943 to 1945 and in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Will flew 12 tours in the B-24 plane.
Congratulations to Chuck and Will for their recognition awards and thank you to them and the others for their service to their country!

From the '30s

With these wheels, our friends Gordon & Cory really got noticed this summer zooming around Eagan! This 1932 Ford Hiboy Roadster, originally from Florida, was repainted and rebuilt in Milwaukee by "Crash Customs" complete with a Chevy 383 V8 motor. Click here to see one of their other fancy cars!

Eagan to Monaco

Many years ago as a poor college student studying in Germany, I almost made it to Monaco. Nice was nice but I didn't have enough money to get to Monaco so my sister and I trained back directly to Germany. Recently at the nearby Mall of America, I spotted this store and thought of Jilly, the Monte Carlo Daily Photo blogger. That's again as close as I came to Monaco ...

If you're looking for a reportedly yummy sandwich, try swinging by "Jimmy John's" for a bite to eat! Nope, I haven't had lunch there yet.

Post-election party

Three Eagan politicians celebrated with their constituents on Tuesday evening at Al Baker's Restaurant in Eagan as the votes were being counted. Today, we congratulate all three for winning their new political posts:
Diane Anderson for Minnesota House representing District 38A, Ted Daley for Minnesota State Senate and Doug Wardlow for Minnesota House representing District 38B!
Congratulations!

A Halloween memory

On Halloween night, our big neighbors and little neighbors gathered for a pre-party before trick-or-treating fun!
